A strong demand lifted the prices of several tea varieties especially good liquoring at Kochi auctions this week.

The CTC dust market was dearer by ₹3-7 a kg, with 93 per cent of the offerings getting sold in sale no 13.

Though the quantity on offer was lower at 8,79,000 kg compared to last week, there was a good support from regional blenders especially on good liquoring.

There was a subdued demand from upcountry buyers and exporters confined to medium and plainer varieties, the auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.

With 12,500 kg on offer in orthodox dust varieties, primary grades tended to ease.

In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties quoted ₹107-155, mediums fetched ₹95-130 and plain grades stood at ₹92-104.

Orthodox varieties in leaf category also witnessed a good demand with grades such as Nilgiri brokens, whole leaf and Fannings registering a strong feature as its prices appreciated by longer margins of ₹5-10 and more following quality.

Medium bolder brokens, tippy grades, smaller brokens were also dearer by ₹5-7 and more.

The quantity on offer was 138,000 kg.

In CTC leaf, the market for good liquoring brokens and Fannings was also firm to dearer with the active exporters participation. The quantity on offer was 78,500 kg.

In dust grades, Monica SFD quoted the best prices of ₹155 followed by Mayura & Waterfall SFD at ₹151.

Chamraj FOP came to the top in leaf grades quoting ₹351, followed by Chamraj FOP-Sup (green tea) at ₹343.
