Despite low arrivals, tea prices continued to perk up at Kochi auctions this week. With 93 per cent on offer getting sold in CTC dust, the market appreciated by ₹3 to ₹5 — and sometimes more, according to quality.

About 7,05,000 kg was on offer, and leading blenders were active on good liquoring varieties. Kerala Loose Tea traders improved their offtake, and there was good participation from exporters, said auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis.

Orthodox dust The orthodox dust market was also dearer by ₹2 to ₹3, with exporters continuing to be the mainstay.

In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched ₹119-160, mediums quoted ₹110-142 and plain grades stood at ₹109-121.

In the leaf category, the market for select best brokens, whole leaf and Fannings in orhtodox grades was firm to dearer. About 1,24,000 kg was on offer.

However, in CTC leaf, good liquoring brokens and Fannings barely remained steady. Others were irregular and lower, witnessing some withdrawals. The quantity on offer was 61,000 kg.

In the dust category, Kallyar SFD quoted the best prices of ₹169, followed by Monica SFD at ₹160. Chamraj FOP-S (Green Tea) came to the top in leaf, quoting ₹400, followed by P’s Woodlands Hyson (Green Tea) at ₹296.
