Good arrivals coupled with active blenders participation lifted prices of several tea varieties at Kochi auctions.

The CTC dust market was dearer by ₹2 to ₹3 and sometimes more, especially powdery grades. The quantity on offer in sale no 2 was 9,42,500 kg. However, there was some resistance noticed on high priced SRD grade, the auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.

In orthodox dust, the quantity on offer was 21,500 kg. The market for primary grades remained barely steady, while the secondary grades tended to ease. Exporters and upcountry buyers shared the bulk of the offerings.

Leaf category prices also witnessed an upward trend with the market for good liquoring Nilgiri brokens, whole leaf in orthodox grades firm to dearer. A few selected lines appreciated by longer margins. The quantity on offer was 188,500 kg. There was fair enquiry from CIS and traditional exporters.

In CTC leaf, the market was dearer by ₹2 to ₹3 and sometimes more following quality. The quantity on offer was 60,500 kg. Exporters, upcountry and Kerala buyers absorbed the quantity sold.

In the dust category, Monica SFD quoted the best prices of ₹156, followed by Surianalle SFD at ₹149. In leaf varieties, Chamraj FOP-S (Green Tea) came to the top quoting ₹406, followed by P's Woodlands Hyson (Green Tea) at ₹291.
