Good support from leading blenders helped select best liquoring tea varieties quote steady to firm at the Kochi auctions.
Other varieties were irregular and lower by ₹2 to ₹3 and witnessed some withdrawals. However, the drop in prices was lesser for medium and plainer grainier varieties, the auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.
In sale no 39, the quantity on offer was 10,77,500 kg in the CTC dust varieties. There was fair demand from Kerala loose tea traders and exporters, while the upcountry demand was subdued.
In the orthodox grades, exporters continued to be the mainstay of the market, with primary grades remaining steady to firm. The quantity on offer was 16,000 kg.
In the Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched ₹106-151, mediums quoted ₹90-123 and plain grades stood at ₹83-97.
In the leaf category, the market for select best Nilgiri brokens, whole leaf and Fannings in orthodox grades was firm to dearer. The quantity on offer was 174,500 kg.
In the CTC grades, the market for brokens was irregular and lower by ₹3 to ₹5 and witnessed a lot of withdrawals. The quantity on offer was 65,000 kg. Exporters and Kerala buyers absorbed the CTC quantity sold.
In the dust varieties, Monica SFD quoted the best prices of ₹152, followed by Waterfall SFD at ₹144. In the leaf grades, Chamraj FOP-S (Green Tea) came to the top quoting ₹371, followed by P’s Woodlands Hyson Green Tea at ₹311.
