The Centre has appointed Anita Kapur, the outgoing CBDT Chairperson, as an advisor on tax reforms for a period of six months.

Kapur, who superannuated on Monday, will be an advisor for a period of six months. 

Meanwhile, A.K. Jain, Member, CBDT will discharge duties and responsibilities of the post of CBDT Chairman in addition to his own duties, an official release said. 

The terms of reference for the Advisor (Anita Kapur) include advising the revenue department on important files referred by the Department.

She would examine various suggestions received for “bold tax reforms” in the light of hard data and likely implications and present her view to Revenue Department.

Kapur would also help the Committee set up recently under the Chairmanship of Justice R.V. Easwar (Retd.) for re-drafting of certain sections of the Income Tax Act; 

She could also present to the Government suo moto her views on certain policy matters relating to direct taxation, according to the release.
