The Union Budget presented today continues to provide impetus to the use of technology to aid empowerment of the economy and citizens. Accelerated spending on rural sector and infrastructure will energize the economy. The measures introduced to boost growth across sectors like agriculture, infrastructure, education and MSMEs are laudable.

The push on digital transformation of education and market relevant training for youth will prove to be key in shaping the country’s future. The launch of SWAYAM and extending the benefits of digital learning to students will help democratise quality education and empower youth with resources for an inclusive learning experience. The government continues to strengthen its commitment to skill development and help the nation’s youth take advantage of economic opportunities. Market relevant training for youth by way of 100 India International Skill Centres is a positive step in this direction.

Digital economy I am pleased to see the growing focus on cybersecurity, which is critical to transforming the country into a digitally empowered, cashless economy. To aid delivery of citizen services and achieve the Digital India vision, introduction of ICT-linked schemes such as Aadhaar Pay, BHIM app, Aadhaar-based health cards, are promising moves by the Finance Minister.

Tax administration I am happy to hear that GST-related preparedness and roll-out are on schedule, and I am keen to see it unfolding in the coming months. The reduction of corporate tax for MSMEs is a welcome move and will boost the economic growth. Further, the tax sops announced will help boost the economy in the near term.

Overall, this year's Budget continues to build on the promise of delivering a Digital India. I am pleased with the sustained focus on leveraging digital technologies to drive long-term impact on the economy and its citizens, both. This will help India for the next wave of growth and development. We, at Microsoft, will continue to support this digital transformation in the country by creating solutions that work for India.
