The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu described the Union Budget as development oriented with accent on infrastructure sector and focus on employment generation.
Describing it as the maiden interim budget of the NDA Government after returning to power, he said the new Government has legacy problems which it has inherited from the UPA Government. Therefore, all the concerns cannot be addressed at one go.
The Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has outlined the broader Government thinking on the development and the way forward. In the course of time all the assurances made during the elections would be addressed, he said.
The thrust on development of renewable energy sector will provide much needed boost to this nascent and growing sector in the country.
Addressing a press conference here, he said that the Centre has laid special thrust on development of infrastructure and logistics, both with immense potential in the State. The Budget has sought to balance rural development with needs of urban areas.
Referring to the provisions for the new State of Andhra Pradesh, he said that a good beginning has been made with the move to develop Chennai-Vizag and Chennai-Bangalore industrial corridors and Kakinada region and strengthen the port infrastructure.
He said that the Centre has made a beginning with some of the initiatives and has indicated the general approach towards development. In the course of time, specifics for various sectors and issues relating to them and also necessary funding will be provided.
Without the Government having any clarity on the revenues (it is in power just about a month now), there cannot be an all out approach to development. Slowly and surely initiatives will be taken up for development, he said.
Asked about poor allocation to the State, he said, “It is just the beginning. It is satisfactory. As we go along, we will take up various issues and ensure that the centre supports them all, including funding and issues relating to special status.”
