The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Thursday criticised the Railway Budget for its “casual and clerical approach” and called it as a “brake-fail” budget.

It also criticised the Centre for not taking the Parliament into confidence before making announcements on projects.

According to a post on the party’s official Facebook page, TMC maintained that the Centre had hiked passenger fares by as high as 25 per cent a few months back. However, post diesel prices coming down, the Union Government should now have brought down the fares.

The fact that freight rates have been increased too was not taken lightly by the party. “This (upward revision of freight rates) will have an effect on prices of essential commodities and in turn affect housewives and farmers,” the post maintained.

According to the party’s Facebook post, the Budget even lacked innovative ideas and those discussed on railway safety such as anti-collision devices are all old ideas.

Trinamool also criticised the Budget for failing to give West Bengal its due importance and allotting less than one per cent towards the State or ignoring the ongoing Metro Railway projects here.

“We looked at nitty-gritty of the Budget. Projects worth hundreds of crores stuck in Bengal but allocation is less than one per cent. There is no mention of Metro Railway projects in the Annexure of the Rail Budget 2015,” it further added.
