The National Joint Action Committee (NJAC) of Central government employees unions on Wednesday decided to defer the July 11 strike for four months, subject to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley submitting in writing the decision to refer the issue of increasing minimum wage and new fitment formula to a committee. ‘
The NJAC met here to discuss the course of action following an assurance from top Cabinet Ministers, including Jaitley, last week.
To meet again“We were told that both the issues will be referred to committee, which will take a decision within four months. We have asked the Finance Minister to submit the same in writing, after which we will defer the strike. We will meet again on July 9,” SN Malik, Press Secretary, National Federation of Indian Railwaymen, told BusinessLine .
About 33 lakh Central government employees across sectors have threatened to go on indefinite strike from July 11, seeking modifications in the 7th Pay Commission recommendations, a hike in minimum wage to ₹26,000, scrapping of the National Pension Scheme and opposing 100 per cent FDI in Railways and Defence.
High-level committeeThe Centre has promised that a high-level committee will look into their demands on the Pay Commission report.
“Employee unions requested that certain issues raised by them in relation to the pay scales and other recommendations of the Pay Commission be allowed to be raised before a Committee of Secretaries looking into different aspects of grievances of employees in relation to the Pay Commission recommendations,” said the Finance Ministry, adding that the Centres has assured the unions on the issue.
