The Delhi Cabinet, which met here on Tuesday, approved the constitution of the Fifth Delhi Finance Commission, initially for a period of one year.

The commission will consist of a Chairperson and three members, including a Member Secretary, to be appointed by the Lt Governor of Delhi on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.

The recommendations of the Commission are proposed to come into effect on April 1, 2016, an official statement said.

Free bus rides for disabled The Cabinet also approved free travel facilities to persons suffering from disabilities defined under the Disabilities Act in AC & non-AC buses of Delhi Transport Corporation and the orange buses under the Cluster Scheme. “The Cabinet approved the extension of free travel facilities through all-route pass issued by DTC to persons suffering from any disability,” the statement read.

Transport dept vacancies The Cabinet also approved the deployment of ex-Servicemen to vacant posts of foot constables in the enforcement wing of the transport department for a period of six months or till the vacancies are filled on regular basis.

In view of the vacancies, the posts are to be filled for enforcement of provisions of Motor Vehicles Act. Approval has been given for deploying about 400 ex-Servicemen against the vacant posts of foot constables on contract basis for six months or till the posts are filled on regular basis, it said.
