Indian Green Building Council is planning to launch a rating system for metro rails during the Green Building Congress 2014 scheduled to be held at Hyderabad during September 4-6.
Since 2001, IGBC, has launched seven different types of green building rating systems to address different types of buildings. A step towards this direction is the soon-to be-launched IGBC Green Metro Rail Rating, the first of its kind in the world.
S Raghupathy, Executive Director, CII-Godrej GBC, “In a Green metro, the energy consumption would come down by 20 per cent and fresh water usage would come down by 30 per cent. Most importantly, green metros will make the travel/transit of the passengers and occupants more memorable, enjoyable and green.”
According to a statement from CII, the first IGBC Green Metro Rail Rating System-Technical Committee meeting was organised by Indian Green Building Council of CII in partnership with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd at New Delhi.
As on date, over 2,500 green building projects amounting to over 2.10 billion sq.ft of green building footprint are going the IGBC way. Various types of buildings including Government, IT parks, offices, residential, banks, airports, convention centre, institutions, Government buildings, malls, hospitals, hotels, factories, SEZs, townships, schools, etc are part of the network.
Prem C Jain, Chairman, IGBC highlighted IGBC aspiration to cross over 10 billion sq.ft of green building footprint by 2022.
