Domestic airlines flew 96.90 lakh passengers in August registering a 15.6 per cent growth, over 83.81 lakh passengers flown during the same period in the previous year.

IndiGo retained the number one spot by flying 36.78 lakh passengers in August. It was followed by Jet Airways (with 15.38 lakh passengers) and SpiceJet (13.59 lakh).

Air India carried 12.82 lakh passengers while GoAir flew 7.76 lakh, AirAsia flew 4.16 lakh and Vistara flew 3.59 lakh passengers.

Passenger load factor

SpiceJet reported the highest passenger load factor (PLF) of 94.5 per cent during the month among all the domestic airlines.

Passenger load factor shows how many of the total seats on offer by each airline are getting filled. AirAsia reported a PLF of 85.8 per cent, followed by GoAir (85.4 per cent), IndiGo (83.6 per cent) and Vistara (83.4 per cent).

IndiGo reported the best on-time performance (OTP) among all the airlines at 86.6 per cent at the four airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru. SpiceJet took the second spot reporting an OTP of 78.7 per cent followed by Vistara (74.5 per cent) and Go Air (74.2 per cent).

Compensation paid

The industry paid over ₹2 crore to over 100,000 passengers affected by cancellations, delays and those who were denied boarding.

This included paying over ₹73.73 lakh as compensation towards providing facilities to the over 85,000 passengers affected by delays.

The industry also paid ₹72.67 lakh as compensation to over 1,700 passengers who were denied boarding.
