Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives is all set to launch ‘Neo,’ an electric car. The first batch of Neo is expected to hit the road soon.

Produced in association with Tata Motors, the 48-volt Neo will run 150 km with air-conditioning, on full charge, J Anand, Managing Director, Jayem Automotives Pvt Ltd said, adding that “we will assemble and market the new electric vehicle.”

System developer

Neo is powered by an electric drive system developed and supplied by Electra EV, a technology company which develops and produces electric drive systems, Anand said.

Industry trend

On his foray into this space, he said, “Electric vehicles are set to become an industry trend soon with the government setting an ambitious target of having only electric cars by 2030.”

Besides manufacture of such vehicles there is potential for strengthening charging infrastructure, development of human resource personnel including training for after-service technicians and and systems for appropriate treatment of end-of- life batteries.
