Ambitious Metro rail project in Gujarat is inching ahead towards execution, as the company, Metro-Link Express for Gandhinagar & Ahmedabad (MEGA) Co. Ltd announced issuance of the letter of acceptance (LoA) to a French rail transit major, Systra S.A-led consortium for appointment of General Engineering Consultant (GEC) for the project.

In a statement issued here, MEGA, the special purpose vehicle of the Centre and Gujarat Government mentioned that the consortium is led by Systra S.A., a global leader in mass transit and rail engineering. The consortium has partners such as RITES Ltd from India Oriental Consultants Global Co Ltd from Japan and AECOM Asia Co Ltd from Hong Kong for the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-I. 

The decision was taken in the Project Committee meeting of the company held on August 31 at New Delhi and LoA was issued to the consortium on September 4 this year, the statement said.

The objective of this contract is to obtain General Engineering Consultancy Services for design review and commissioning of the Phase-I of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project in relation to all civil structures, alignment, tracks, signals, telecom facilities, traction arrangement, power supply, rolling stocks, stations, depots, offices, bridges, flyovers, fire alarm, fire detection, public health & environment.

Apart from this, the GEC will monitor all contract works in progress, identify any delay from schedule including coordination conflicts and recommend measures to eliminate or mitigate problems and implement the measures with the approval of MEGA Co. Ltd. 

The appointment of GEC will accelerate construction and commissioning of the project in phased manner and also enable MEGA to rope in experts from domestic as well as global metro rail industry which will help to place the Metro Rail Project on fast-track. 

MEGA has also awarded the contract for the construction of 6 stations across the city on August 21.
