The New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) has introduced eDO (Electronic Delivery Order) facility for its users.
A press release said here on Friday that NMPT has become the first port in India to introduce eDO for bulk and liquid cargoes. The facility, which was introduced on December 30, allows vessel agents to issue eDO via electronic medium. The introduction of eDO is in line with the Centre's policy on 'ease of doing business'.
The release said that this facility will enhance the paperless concept, and cut down the dwell time and transaction cost significantly. This is a major step towards implementation of e-business in port.
It said that the web-based port entry/clearance system went live on November 17. This system helps the steamer agents to generate and download both inward and outward clearance certificates. This process is automated and requires no manual intervention.
PC Parida, Chairman of NMPT, appealed to all the port users to take the benefit of above facilities for speedy and hassle-free transactions in the port. These facilities will help the trade in terms of time, cost and efficiency, he said.
