Indian Railways plan to have thermal printers that will issue paper tickets with quick response (QR) scans in the unreserved passenger segment. As of now, a pilot project has started in New Delhi, Delhi Junction and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations.
The move will prevent fraud as the QR code will also capture information such as number of passengers. “At present, many passengers overwrite information on unreserved tickets, all of which result in passenger revenue loss to the Railways,” a senior railway official told BusinessLine .
However, ticket checkers would need to buy QR code readers. Based on the success of these thermal printers, which save three seconds per print against dot matrix printers, more thermal printers will be put into action. There are several vendors in the thermal printers field, such as Amtec, Intermec, Lipi Data Systems and TVS, the official said.
