As the first board meeting of AirAsia India gets under way, Tony Fernandes has tweeted that there is superb cooperation between the partners.
“I am confident we will make profit in the first year. And change aviation,” Fernandes tweeted.
He added that most Indian carriers were reporting losses due to high input costs. Last week IndiGo bucked the trend by clocking a net profit of Rs 787 crore.
In another tweet, Tony said he had “no issue with Tata-Singapore Airlines.”
AirAsia India, which has been granted a No Objection Certificate by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, has started the process of applying for an operating permit from the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation.
The board meeting comes days after Arun Bhatia, one of the partners in the three-way AirAsia India project, protested at not being informed about Tata Sons tying up with Singapore Airlines to set up a full-service airline in India. This was denied by Tata Sons, with Mukund Raja, the Tata Group spokesperson, saying that AirAsia was informed of the partnership between Tata Sons and Singapore Airlines.
