The Centre would ready the National Skill Development Policy within next six months. As a precursor to such a move, the Government was rationalising and integrating 73 skill development, vocational training and entrepreneurial development schemes, currently run by 20 ministries or departments.
Jyotsna Sitling, Joint Secretary to the Union Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, said at Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry-organised function here on Wednesday."The Ministry is now facilitating and coordinating the initiative to develop a common norms such schemes across the departments in other ministries", Stling said.
The national policy would lay down a infrastructural framework, a stakeholders' network of organisations for right skilling, upskilling or reskilling as well as training in entrepreneurship, the official said.
The Centre has envisaged creation of five skill universities, training infrastructure in 2,000 schools and 5,000 colleges. It also wants to reorient ITIs in public-private partnership framework.
"By December 2016, we plan to lay down national skill development network involving and aligning State Governments, corporate sector, funding mechanism and educational institutions," she explained.
Atul Bhatnagar, CEO of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) said NSDC was having tie ups with States and industries to start short-term course and certifications.
