National Skill Development Corporation today announced a tie-up with SkillPro, a social venture focussing on placement-linked skill training, to broaden its reach.

The corporation will also be funding the company to the tune of Rs 18.5 crore, while the company will put in another about Rs 7 crore to scale up its operation through the tie-up.

SkillPro is looking to raise another Rs 25 crore through the venture capital route in the next three to six months.

The partnership will focus on skill development programmes for the automotive, construction and healthcare centres, besides capital goods and ITeS.

SkillPro has about 56 centres across 16 States, with 50 per cent of these located in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

“Through the tie-up, we now plan to increase the number of centres to 220 in the next three years. We have trained 48,000 people, with a target of reaching one million in the next ten years,” Ananth Rao, Chairman of SkillPro, said.

Dilip Chenoy, MD and CEO of the corporation, said industry experts expect that by 2022, over 500 million people would need skill training and the industry needed over 350 million skilled people just to sustain the current growth.
