The Cabinet on Thursday approved the signing and ratifying of the SAARC Regional Railways Agreement and the SAARC Motor Vehicles Agreement at the upcoming summit of South Asian nations in Kathmandu, Nepal.
An official statement said the Regional Railways Agreement will strengthen transport connectivity in the SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) Region, which will provide stimulus to the economic development in the region.
The Motor Vehicles Agreement will let member countries allow the vehicles of other member countries to ply in their territory for transportation of cargo and passengers, subject to terms and conditions.
It also approved the signing of a bilateral agreement for the regulation of passenger traffic between India and Nepal on the sidelines of the forthcoming SAARC Summit in Kathmandu. The Cabinet has also authorised the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to sign similar Bilateral Agreements and Protocols with other SAARC member States.
