The wait for Central government employees for a pay hike may be getting shorter as the Committee of Secretaries (CoS) on the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations has finalised its report.
“CoS has finalised its report on Pay Commission recommendations... We will soon (file) draft Cabinet note based on the report,” said Finance Secretary Ashok Lavasa on Monday.
Sources said the Union Cabinet will take up the proposal shortly. The revised salaries will be effective from January 1, 2016.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has in the Union Budget 2016-17 earmarked ₹70,000 crore for the implementation of the recommendations.
The government had in January set up the CoS led by Cabinet Secretary PK Sinha to review the recommendations of the Pay Commission that will increase the remuneration of nearly 50 lakh central government employees and 58 lakh pensioners.
The Pay Commission had recommended 23.55 per cent overall hike in salaries, allowances and pension involving an additional burden of ₹1.02 lakh crore or nearly 0.7 per cent of the GDP.
