The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas launched a campaign for promoting natural gas use in India, with the aim of increasing the fuel’s share in the energy basket of the country.

Launching the #Gas4India campaign, Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Petroleum and Natural Gas, said, “The country is moving towards a gas-based economy and the government is working to increase the share of gas in the country’s energy basket from the present 6.5 per cent.”

“The government has taken initiatives and policy reforms throughout the gas chain. Besides the move to enhance gas production, the government is promoting the nationwide gas grid, bio-CNG and bio-PNG and setting up of gas infrastructure,” he added.

Further, Pradhan also said that three new LNG terminals are coming up in India for which India has acquired assets abroad and entered into long-term contracts to ensure unhindered supply at reasonable prices.

The #Gas4India campaign will be targeted across the country through social media engagement as well as hyper-local offline events to connect with the consumers.

“The campaign will promote increased share of gas in India’s overall energy mix to at least 15 per cent. The move towards a gas-based economy will not only bring huge investments in this sector but also will create jobs,” said Chandrajit Banerjee, Director-General of the Confederation of Indian Industry.
