The Union Cabinet Secretariat is looking to ensure that India Inc can monitor all project clearances and sanctions on its Project Monitoring Group (PMG) portal from March 31, 2015.
Industries can register their projects and follow up on the progress made on real-time basis, said Anil Swarup, Additional Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat, Government of India.
The facility, though available currently, does not cover all government departments. Swarup was addressing the annual convention of the Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers’ Association here on Monday. The digitalised process calls for registration of projects on the portal, besides putting up the issues relating to clearances and sanctions.
The action taken by each government agency, minutes of meetings by the PMG as also timelines given by the government departments would be visible.
Twelve sub-committees comprising various ministries and departments, each headed by a joint secretary, were in place to respond.
Cordination with StatesHaving found that 50 per cent of issues relate to States where projects are to be set up, the PMG visits those States twice a week to coordinate approvals and if the latter required any Central assistance across ministries, it was taken up.
Swarup said so far clearances for 176 projects worth ₹5.7 lakh crore had been facilitated. At present, there were over 450 projects listed on the portal. Following the success of the PMG, about 15 States had come forward to use the group’s software to set up project management panels at their end.
The PMG takes up projects upwards of ₹1,000 crore. The States have decided to coordinate for projects between ₹100 and ₹1,000 crore, he said.
