The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has appointed Sumit Bose, a 1976 batch Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS officer, as Finance Secretary.

Bose will continue to hold the post of Revenue Secretary, but be designated as Finance Secretary, sources close to the development said.

After the superannuation of erstwhile Finance Secretary Gujral, Bose had become the senior-most of the five Secretaries in the Finance Ministry.

Bose has been revenue secretary in the Finance Ministry since August 2012.

Educated at the Doon School, Dehradun (class of 1970), St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, and the London School of Economics, Bose had joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1976.

Prior to his present appointment, Bose was Secretary (Expenditure) from May, 2011 to August, 2012.

He was Secretary (Disinvestment) from February, 2010 to May, 2011. Bose was Secretary in the Thirteenth Finance Commission, from August 2007 to January 2010.

Earlier, between 2004 and 2007, he was the Principal Secretary, Finance in the Government of Madhya Pradesh.
