A national-level workshop on A-VIEW (Amrita Virtual Interactive E-Learning World) technology for distance education, developed by Amrita E-Learning Research Lab, Amritapuri (Kollam), was held as part of the IEEE International Conference on Technology Enhanced Education (ICTEE 2012) at the Amrita School of Engineering.

In his keynote address, Prof Kamal Bijlani, Director of Amrita E-Learning Research Lab said that various universities and colleges across the country have been using A-VIEW, especially in remote areas, to disseminate quality education to all students. At present, besides IIT-Bombay around 300 Universities and 1,000 colleges are using A-VIEW for conducting various online courses, seminars and workshops. In order to address the huge demand for skilled trainers, “we conducted the first national workshop on A-VIEW,” he said.

Around 120 faculty members from various universities and colleges in India attended the A-VIEW workshop. The participants unanimously praised the features of A-VIEW. The conference was accessible via smartphones and tablets. Participants from several remote centres — IIT Bombay, Ministry of HRD, and IIIT-Hyderabad — interacted using A-VIEW with the conference speakers.

Dr Sandhya Kode, Director, EnhanceEdu, Center for Education Technology and Learning Sciences, IIIT-Hyderabad said A-VIEW can be utilised for outreach education to benefit the public, as it is an ideal platform for conducting classes and seminars. She underlined that the standard of higher education can be elevated to greater heights using A-VIEW.

Dr Arundhati Kulkarni, Director, KSLU's Law School, Hubli, said that they were planning to set up A-VIEW in their affiliated colleges soon. sajeevkumar@
