Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Modem trouble
While I am browsing, the modem gets disconnected and an error message 666 appears. I have a Compaq Presario 7500 with an internal modem. I remove all programmes related to the modem and shut down the computer. On my restarting the computer, at times it does not recognise the fact that the modem has been uninstalled. Do you think it is due to a clash of programmes? I have installed zone alarm and Norton anti virus. Please suggest a solution. Gita At times your computer may run into interruptions during a connection that will leave the computer or modem in an unresolved state. This will result in future connection attempts to fail. The first thing to do if you encounter an error is to shut down your machine in the following manner: Close all running programs, shut down the computer and turn the power off. If you have an external modem, make sure to turn the power off on it as well. If there is no on/off switch on the modem, you may have to unplug the modem's power supply. After approximately 30 seconds, turn your computer and modem (if external) back on. Once the computer has finished booting up, try connecting again. Installing programs that use the modem does not cause an interruption. You will just need to make sure that the installed program is not running any service in the background. If so, you will have to terminate any such service before using the modem for any other purpose. If you have other internal cards such as sound cards, video cards, etc installed alongside your internal modem, then there could be a possible conflict between them in the hardware resource usage. Please try installing the modem in a different slot and re-install its drivers.
