Easy PC ride

Those who can never have enough of the computer will love to sink their teeth into this week's Web site picks, which focus on programs, tips and tricks, updates and downloads. Check out these two sites - your computing experience will be a lot better and happier.

www.cyberwalker.net

This phenomenal site is a treat for geeks, newbies and general users alike. The online spinoff of a tech column by Andy Walker, renowned technology journalist, the site is run by Cyberwalker Media, a content syndicate that provides quality technology news, reviews, features and the flagship Cyberwalker column to newspapers, magazines and dotcoms all over the world.

From MP3s to deleting "naughty files", from latest gizmos to tips on extracting the best out of your computer, this site is filled with tons of useful information. Best of all, all of it is completely free.

There is a "Get Help" section where you can post your queries on computer or software usage, besides reviews of new products and regular columns.

The matter is neatly divided into sections, so you can click on the link for a particular operating system and then move on to the subject of choice.

The writing is top-notch, not surprising given the journalistic expertise that the site is backed by. The site is well-designed with a pleasant choice of colours and fonts, and together with the quality of content, is surely worth bookmarking.

www.filelibrary.com

Another shareware site? Well, at first glance, even I thought it was just one of the many shareware sites, but this one turned out to be among the few good ones.

This software treasure trove is a well-designed, well-laid out resource for the best of software from developers across the world in a variety of categories.

You can search by platform, and then according to the group under which programs belong, such as database or HTML, etc. There are also links to drivers, patches, and frequently asked questions.

With the `Extended Search' facility, you can narrow down your search, or if you are just interested in the latest and the hottest, there's a separate section for that too. The Web site also provides a message board where you can post your doubts and queries or information about a particular program or utility.

This very useful stop for those interested in picking up shareware of top quality also provides zip files of every program listed on it, so that your downloading process is completed within the site.
