Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Connecting systems
I would like to know if there is any possibility to connect 2 or 3 systems together, with one acting as server and the rest acting as clients. Is it possible to do so by giving serial connections alone or should I buy a network interfacing card and go for a LAN type of connection? All the three systems can have Win 98 and Windows 2000 Professional as their OS. Deepak Angeshwar You can make a serial or parallel connection and share files among the connected computers. You can have a set-up along these lines: You can have one system as the server, say computer A, and connect the other two systems, computer B and C, to the COM1 and COM2 ports of computer A respectively. Once the set-up is wired, you will have to make a direct cable connection. In Windows 98, you will find this in the accessories menu and in Windows Professional, you will find it in the Network and Dialup connection wizard which you will find under the accessories -> communication menu. Make a new connection and in the wizard, select `connect directly to another computer'. On computer A, configure the connection as Host and on Computer B and C, please configure the connection as guest. Once the link has been established, on system A, you will receive two incoming connections and on systems B and C, you will have outgoing connections. Solution by G. Rajah
