Explaining utilities

One can use msconfig.exe for selective start-up in the Windows 98 operating system. What is the corresponding command in Windows 2000? Again, one can use win pop up for communication in a networked group environment using Windows 98. What is the corresponding utility in Windows 2000? Please provide explanations.

Unnikrishnan

Msconfig.exe is a very useful utility that is available in all versions of Windows except Windows 2000. You can copy the msconfig.exe from a Windows XP system and use it in Windows 2000 but the problem is that Microsoft does not allow copying of files or utilities of a product unless you have an separate licence for that. You can, however, safely download a simple third-party software from the following URL:

To get the job done for you, the name of the utility is Startup Control Panel.

As for the winpop.exe counterpart in Windows 2000, you can use the winchat.exe. Just type winchat in the start -{gt} run dialog and press enter. You will have an application similar to the win popup,. You can, however, use the net meeting application which is a more advanced communication interface. You can also have it installed in the Windows 98 OS.
