This week, we take a look at some programs that help you recover files that have been accidentally deleted from the disk or damaged by viruses. All the programs are shareware.

File Scavenger

File Scavenger is a Windows NT/2000/XP file undelete and data recovery utility for NTFS volumes.

It can recover files damaged by virus or accidentally deleted from Windows Explorer, Recycle Bin, the DOS command line, or a network share along with original folder names and file Create and Modified dates.

It supports reformatted volumes or broken hardware/software RAID volumes, as well as file compression, dynamic disks, alternate data streams, sparse files, Unicode filenames and more.

CDRoller

GetDataBack for FAT

GetDataBack for FAT is a data recovery software for FAT file systems which will help you get your data back even if your drive's partition table, boot record, FAT or root directory is corrupt or lost or when a virus has hit the drive, files were deleted, the drive was formatted, struck by a power failure, etc.

OfficeFIX is a Microsoft Office recovery suite that restores damaged or corrupt Excel, Access and Word files.

Zero Assumption Recovery

Zero Assumption Recovery (ZAR) is a read-only data recovery solution that extracts data from the damaged HDD to another medium (typically an additional HDD), leaving the original disk intact. ZAR can recover FAT 16/32 and NTFS (including NTFS5) volumes and supports long file names and NTFS compression.

The program can typically recover volumes accidentally formatted or corrupted by a virus, power cut, etc. The main interface operates under Windows, but there is an optional DOS mode in which it can scan for and retrieve partitioning information from the damaged disk. ZAR can automatically save the recovered disk to a new disk image, so that you only need to load the image and recover additional files at a later time.

BadCopy Pro

BadCopy Pro is a fully automatic floppy disk and CD recovery tool. It can recover and restore any type of files on damaged floppy disks, CD-ROMs or other local drives.
