Win 98 `auto login'

I use a Compaq Presario laptop operating on PIII 800 MHZ processor with Win Me as the OS.

I connect to an NT server in the workplace. Accordingly, my laptop is set to start with the login dialog for logging into my workplace domain. On other networks too, this dialog comes first and when I press `Return', it warns that the domain is not available and, therefore, network resources may not be available.

When I press `Enter' at this point, it logs on normally and I am able to work on Windows on a new network.

Of late, however, for some reason, the system starts directly without this dialog and therefore no network sharing is available. To log on to the network now, I have to go to the start button and then log off. When I do this, the original dialog, which used to appear earlier upon switching, appears and only then am I able to log into the network.

How can I get the login dialog at the first stage itself? Please suggest a solution. M.Y. Ganesh

It is likely that the `Auto logon' has been enabled in your system. A simple way to disable it is by using the Tweak UI. If you have Tweak UI installed in your system, please do the following: Click on Start -{gt} Settings -{gt} Control Panel and double click on the Tweak UI icon. Next select the `Network' tab (you may need to click on the arrows next to the tabs to cycle through the tabbed windows).

Un-Check the "Log on automatically at system start-up" checkbox. Now, enter your user name and password wherever appropriate. Click the "OK" button to close the dialog box. If you do not have `Tweak UI' installed, you can have it downloaded from the following URL: http://download.com.com/
