Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Retrieving data
A few days ago, a friend, by mistake, used one of my CDs to write a Powerpoint presentation, which had some other data also. Since the presentation is small, I know it could not have overwritten all the data. Could you kindly suggest any software for retrieving the earlier data that has not been overwritten. Are there any freeware available? However, I do not mind if it is otherwise too. Please suggest a solution. - Avinash Singh The CD file system (CDFS) is different for your hard disk file systems. So you will not be able to use your disk recovery tools to recover data on CD medias. You will need a recovery software which is built for it, like the IsoBuster. It is a freeware and a shareware some functionalities are free and for the rest you will have to pay. However, you can have your job done with the free functionality itself. You can have this from http://www.smart-projects.net/isobuster/. All you have to do is install the software in a suitable location, insert the CD to be recovered into your CD-ROM and start IsoBuster. The utility will automatically sense your Rom drive and read data from the CD inside using all forms of file modes. It basically bypasses the constraints of OS and directly accesses the data on the CD. Once the reading is through, you will have an explorer view listing of the contents of the CD. Now you have to just right click on the folder or file you want to recover and Extract it to your hard disk. However, if you are not able to see the file you are searching for, you can try UDF scan. To do this, please right click on the root of the CD view in IsoBuster and select `Find missing UDF files and folders'. The utility will scan the CD and will display the files and folder so found in a separate node `Lost and Found'. There are also some extra settings in the options menu which you can use. To have a more advanced recovery, the software is well documented with a self- explanatory help file. Please check the following URL too: http://www.cdroller.com/.
