Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Starting trouble
I have Windows 98 (second edition) installed in my computer. The following are the problems I face:
Error message: A fatal exception OE has occurred at 017f:bff8ab97. The current application will be terminated.
Pressing any key does not help, so I have to restart the computer using Crtl+Alt+Del and the computer boots in `safe mode'. Then I have to shutdown the system again and reboot the computer. Please tell me what could be the problem and how it can be sorted out. Also, will the frequent use of CRTL+ALT+DEL restart option damage the hard drive?
Sri When the desktop is about to appear, the system starts to execute the start-up programs. The above error may be because of some problem in those applications, please check the list of start up programs and remove unwanted and suspicious programs from start-up and see if it solves the problem. To see the list of start-up programs, please click on Start menu, select Run and type in `msconfig.exe'. Then click on the start up tab. There you will find a list of programs which start at system start up, uncheck unwanted and suspicious programs and restart. If you have recently installed any new hardware or software try removing them and see if that solves the problem. As for your second query, any sudden and abrupt interruption is a strain on the hard disk, worst of all is power surge.
