Problems galore

My problem is that of late my printer has been giving trouble. Whenever I give the print command I get the following message on the printout that appears: Microsoft (r) Document: Microsoft word - hdfc fraud letter .doc. Printed by : n.k.vijaya Date and time : month date year and time". I've noticed that this problem has started after I downloaded an upgraded version of Windows from the Microsoft Web site.

My system runs on Windows 98 and my anti-virus software is McAfee 2001, which I cannot upgrade because I do not have a password. How can I proceed with the upgradation process?

There is another problem. I am not able to send e-mails through Microsoft Outlook 2000. Every time I send an e-mail, the anti-virus dialog box pops up with the message: "Do not send" as the subject, with the same thing appearing in the body of the mail.

Another problem that I face is that while surfing on the Internet, I can't close the page that I'm browsing and have to constantly restart my computer using ctrl+alt+del. Very often the system hangs due to this. Please suggest solutions.

N.N. Vijaya

The first problem of "Document Properties" printing can be disabled in Word2000, at Tools -{gt} Options -{gt}Select Print Tab, under the "Include with document"; uncheck the tick box of "Document Properties".

To retrieve your password for upgrading McAfee Antivirus, follow these steps:

  • Connect to the Internet.

  • Open McAfee site, http://us.mcafee.com/default.asp

  • Click Log In.

  • Click Forgot Your Password.

  • Under Forgot Your McAfee Password, enter your registered e-mail address.

  • Click Get Password.

  • Confirmation appears. Click Close.

  • Your password will be sent to the e-mail address you entered.

Alternately you can use the freescan (online virus scan) facility of McAfee site:

    http://us.mcafee.com/root/faqs.asp

On the support page, please type "freescan" at search Text box and follow the links of `How do I use freescan.'
