Help with password

I have customised my Internet use with a password which I have forgotten. Due to this, I am unable to go to any of the Web sites which contain violence or any other content prescribed in the customised Internet options. Whenever I go to any Web site the following message appears "contains prohibited content" please enter your password to proceed to watch the site. Please suggest a solution. - C.V. Subba Raidu

The first solution involves editing the Windows registry. Using the Windows Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system and could result in data loss. So it is better to back up the Registry.

Microsoft IE has a Content Advisor password, which if forgotten, makes it impossible for anyone to access the Web sites. But it's an easy problem to fix. Simply delete the registry key that defines the password and ratings. Please follow these steps:

Open the registry editing utility. Click Start {gt} Run. In the box, type regedit and the registry editor will open.

On the left pane of the registry editor window, navigate to this registry key

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVer

sion\Policies\Ratings ]

On the right pane, please locate and right-click the binary value named "Key". Select Delete from the drop-down menu and select Yes when asked if you're sure you want to delete the value. You have just deleted the registry key that contains the content ratings and password. Click File, then Exit to exit the registry editor.

Check the file "Ratings.pol" in your systemroot\System folder . If there is a Ratings.pol file, either delete it or rename it to Ratings.old.

Please reboot the system. If you need to set a new password again, then open Internet Explorer, go to Tools {gt} Internet Options and click the "Content" tab. Click "Enable" and specify a new password.

Alternatively there's a simple tool to remove the Content Advisor password from Internet Explorer. Download a small freeware utility at http://www.snapfiles.com/download/dlcaremover.html .In order to use this utility you don't have to install anything. Just unzip the file and Run the executable (conadvpass.exe). You will be asked if you want to remove the Content Advisor password. If you choose `Yes', the password will be removed.
