Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Default operating system
There are three operating systems installed in my PC. The C drive has Win 2K server, the D drive has Win98 and the E drive has Win XP. I would like to set the default OS to Win98, but currently, the machine boots in Win XP. Following are the details of boot.ini. (boot loader) timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server" /fastdetect C:\="Microsoft Windows 98". How do I go about setting the default system? - Sunil Kumar There are two ways of doing this: One is by editing the Boot.ini file directly and the other is changing the boot order from any of the OS. To do it in the boot.ini, please change the "default=" line to be "default=c:\" Please follow this procedure. Boot into XP on the desktop, right click on properties; in the dialog box that comes up click on "Advanced" tab and under "Startup and Recovery" click "Settings", there under "Default operating System", click on the combo box and select the OS which you want to set as default. Click `ok' and restart your computer.
