Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Virus attack
I have W2KPRO Operating System installed in my PC. Recently, when Norton Antivirus programme scanned the system, the following infected files were reported which could not be repaired, quarantined or deleted.
Obviously, these files are not original system files, but placed by the viruses. Please tell me how these files managed to enter the system, if it is possible to prevent such files from entering the system and how to delete these files. I use the Internet mostly to check e-mail and I also do a bit of browsing. But I don't play any online games. - N. Krishnaswamy The files you have mentioned above are ones copied by the virus "Blaster". Once your system is infected by this virus, it can download files required by it on your system and run it to do its job. In order to safeguard you system against such virus attacks, just scanning your system is not sufficient. You also need to have your virus definitions up-to-date. The virus scanner scans the system for a virus pattern listed in its virus definition. If a new virus infects your system and your virus definition is not up-to-date with this pattern, the virus scanner will not be able to detect the virus. So, please ensure that you update your definitions every week. Also, please look up anti-virus sites such as symante.com and macafee.com to learn about any new virus that has come up. These sites give you up-to-date information on virus outbreaks and also contain characteristics of the different viruses and what they actually do to your system. To remove the files copied by the virus, you will need to use the removal tool specifically released for each virus and its variants. You will find them in the antiviral sites mentioned above. All you need to do is type in the virus name and you have your removal tool, which you get free. To get the tool to remove the virus files in your system, please visit the following URL: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/ venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.removal.tool.html
