Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Booting trouble
Whenever I start my computer, it just gives out a beep and does not boot. So I changed the Ram DDR (to) 128 MB. Again I needed to reset it thrice for it to start. The BIOS settings show that the CPU/DMI frequency ratio is 3:4 or Auto. While the computer is running, the following message appears: "Terminating thread due to a stack of overflow problem, a vxd possibility recently installed has consumed too much stack space. Increase setting of MinSPs in System.ini or remove recently installed vxd's. These are currently asp allocated." - Padam Chand Gupta Vxd is a virtual device driver and MinSP means Minimum spare stack pages. This error appears when Windows encounters an internal overflow of the stacks that are used by 32-bit Windows based device drivers. Stack overflow conditions are indicative of errors in the device driver. Device drivers are allocated four kilobytes (KB), or one page, of space to be used as a stack. If the device driver uses more than four KB of memory, a stack overflow condition occurs. The default number of spare stack pages is two. You can increase the amount of stack pages by modifying your system.ini file. In order to solve this problem, please follow these instructions. Click Start - Run, type sysedit in the open box and click ok. Then click system.ini on the window menu. (It should be the fourth one from the front). Next, add or modify the following entry in the [386Enh] section so that it is set to at least the following value: MinSPs=4 On the File menu, click Exit, and then click yes to save the changes. Restart the computer. If the error persists, please increase the MinSPs statement value in increments of four (for example 8,12,16). If you have installed NAV 2001 Anti-virus software this error has been fixed by a program update. Please close all programs, run Live Update, and select the Norton Antivirus program update. You must restart the computer after the update is installed.
