Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Deleting infected file
I am using a system with Win 98 as my operating system. Recently, I received a virus notification from Norton about an infected file. On scanning the machine, I found that two files in the temporary Internet files were infected with download.trojan virus. Despite my anti-virus definitions being up-to-date, Norton was unable to repair or delete the file. Please suggest a solution. K. Murali You can delete the infected files as they are stored in the "Temporary Internet files" folder. By default, the "Temporary Internet files" folder is hidden by Windows and that is why Norton was unable to repair or delete the file. Please follow these instructions to delete the infected files. Open My Computer; click view menu -{gt} Folder Options -{gt} view tab -{gt} uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types". In the Advanced settings box, under the "Hidden files" folder, please click Show all files; click Apply and then click Ok. Next, please open Internet Explorer; click tools menu -{gt} Internet Options -{gt} General tab. In the Temporary Internet files section, click Delete Files and then click Ok. Please go to Settings and click View Files. This will show you the contents of your Temporary Internet files folder. Please check whether the infected files are deleted. If they are not, then you can delete them manually. If you are still unable to delete the files, please restart the computer in Safe mode and then delete them. To restart in Safe mode, when the computer boots, press and hold down the F8 key until the Windows 98 startup menu appears; then select Safe mode and press Enter.
