Recording TV programmes

I want to record some TV programmes to my hard disk, how should I go about it? I also want to attach an amplifier to my PC. How do I do this?

GS Karunakar

To record TV programmes on to your system's hard disk, you will need a TV tuner card. It is an add-on card, like a 3D card or sound card. The card will have a provision to plug in your cable and other video devices. Usually the card comes with recording software with which you can surf channels and watch your favourite channels on your PC like a TV. Alternatively, you can also record them using the recording software. The software will capture the video you want and write it in .mpg or .avi format to the location you specify. Most software also provide timer facility. You can time your recorder to record your favourite channel when you are not there.

To attach an amplifier, all you have to do is to connect your audio out to the "AUX" auxiliary port of the amplifier. To do this, you will need a cable with one side having a pin compatible with your sound card and the other side having a pin compatible to your amplifier auxiliary port. Then you can connect an audio speaker to your amplifier.
