Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Freedom from virus
My system has Windows 98 as the OS along with an Intel Pentium processor. There was a virus attack on my computer through a floppy disk, which I removed by running an updated AVG 6.0 antiviral package successfully. But whenever I use a new floppy, the virus appears again. I am not able to use floppies due to this problem. Please tell me how I can keep my floppy drive virus-free. The affected files have extensions such as "the_world's_most_wanted_person.exe" and "my heart.exe". Please suggest a solution. Raji Radhakrishnan In addition to scanning your system, you should also reverse the entries in the registry files. Here's how you do it. Restart your system in Safe Mode, Click Start -{gt} Run, type in regedit click "OK", and navigate to the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run In the right pane, please right click and delete the value: "LoadService"="System Directory\SysTask.exe /run" close Registry Editor. Now run a complete system scan, including all your disk partitions as the virus may be in any of your partitions and may infect your system if left unscanned. Please see that you have your virus definition up to date. If you use CDs and floppies, then it is advisable to have them scanned before you start using them. This virus runs in the background with the name SysTask.exe. You can download the "Process Explorer" from http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml. This utility allows you to see all the processing running in the background.
