Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Installing software
I use a system with a Pentium processor, with 128 MB RAM, and Windows 98 SE as the OS. Recently I bought an Olympus C310 digital camera, with camedia4.2 app software. I am able to transfer pictures from the camera, but unable to use the software. When I tried installing it, I got the following error message: "ERROR Number 0X80070725 Description-incompatible version of the RPC STUB". However, I am able to install the same software in another PC with Windows 98 SE. Why does this happen? Could there be a problem with my OS? Please suggest a solution.
Sarathy This problem occurs when there are "Mixed Versions" (some of the files have been upgraded to newer versions, but some are still in the old version when expected to be new) of some .dll files, which might lead to incompatibility within them. Some of them are Oleaut32.dll, Olepro32.dll, Asycfilt.dll, and Stdole2.tlb. To solve the problem, please do the following: First try to reregister the file listed above using the "regsvr32" command. To do this, open the Command prompt by clicking on Start -{gt} Run and type in "Command". In the command window, type in "regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll". Repeat this for all the files listed above. Please check to see if the problem is solved after each file is registered. If the problem is unresolved, then continue with the following steps: If you have Office 2000 installed, then download and install the Office 2000 Service Release 1a (SR-1a). You can get SR-1a at http://download.microsoft.com/download/d/b/b/dbb264f9-db5e-4418-91ab-90196bb2ee1b/o2ksr1a.exe. If you don't have Office 2000 installed, then you can download the McRepair.exe Tool, which will do the job for you. You will get the tool at the following URL: http://download.microsoft.com/download/msninvestor/ patch/1.0/win98/en-us/mcrepair.exe
