Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Roxio vs Nero
I have a Samsung CD/RW drive SW-248F. Until now, I have been using the software given along with the drive, which is Roxio Easy Cd Creator 5. But since this is just a trial version, I have not been able to use all the features. Then I loaded the full version of the same software. But this full version did not recognise the CD/RW drive, so I had no other option except to use the trial version of Roxio easy CD creator. Then somebody told me about Nero version 5.5, but that too could not recognise the drive. So I kept using the Roxio trial version. Now I have to use the full version which has VCD creation support apart from other useful features. I have loaded Nero 6.6.0.1 which does support my drive. But there is a problem. I have noticed that unlike Roxio, Nero does not have the `buffer under-run protection option" both in the preferences menu and in the dialog box which appears on burning the CD. Roxio had an option of optimal speed with buffer underrun protecion that adjusted the speed of burning automatically to give best performance. But Nero does not have any such feature. Please tell me what I should do. Should I use Nero or continue using the Roxio trial version? Is there any other software/version with an optimal speed setting, with buffer underrun protection as well as support for VCD editing features and that recognises my drive SW-248F as well? Prabhakar Bablani To obtain optimal speed in Nero, you will have to `Test' your drive speed or use a simulation in order to obtain the optimal speed for your system and recorder. If not, the maximum possible write speed of the recorder is kept as default. You will find these options in the "Burn" tab of the "New Compilation" dialog or if you are using the Wizard, you will find it on the "Burn" screen. One other option is to write an image and then burn it to the CD. You can do this by selecting the "Image Recorder" from the Recorder -{gt} Choose Recorder menu, and selecting "Image Recorder." This will write an image file to you disk, later you can burn this image to a CD. Alternately, you can update your Nero to the latest. Here is a link from where you can get your updates: http://www.nero.com/us/nero-up.php More information is available on the Nero site at the following link: http://www.nero.com/us/FAQs_Error_Messages.html
