Dual booting problems

I have a Pentium IV computer with 256 MB RAM and Intel motherboard. It is dual booted with Windows 98 and Windows XP. I have a VGA card from NVIDIA. Its specification is NVIDIA RIVA TNT/TNT2 MODEL 64 PRO. I installed its driver in Windows 98 initially and the same driver was used in Windows XP too. Whenever I boot XP, a blue screen appears with an error message, "Windows has shut down to prevent damage". It says that the error occurred due to a device driver and to disable BIOS memory cache options and the video card. Please give me a solution on how to manage drivers when a system is dual booted. I also tried and disabled the video card in Windows XP, but the problem persists.

In Windows XP, first remove the wrong video-card driver and then install the appropriate XP display driver. To do this, please follow these steps: To remove the display driver, restart the machine. When the Boot loader menu appears, use the arrow keys, select Windows XP and press `Enter'. Then immediately begin tapping the F8 key until the Windows advanced options menu appears. Here you may try two options one by one. First scroll to and select "Last Known Good Configuration" and press `Enter'. This option will help you fix boot problems since it will load the previous settings and configuration.

If this doesn't help, scroll to and select the Safe mode menu item, and press Enter. In the next Desktop window, click `Yes' to proceed to work in safe mode. Now your system has been booted in safe mode. Click start - Run - type devmgmt.msc - click OK. This will invoke device manager window. Now double click display adapters and double click your NVIDIA display card. Click Driver tab; here you may select two options Roll Back Driver or Uninstall display driver and click OK. If problem persists, you may also try another way — System Restore from Safe mode. To do this, start Windows XP in safe mode and in the next Desktop window, click `No'. This will take you to System Restore screen.

After removing the driver, restart into normal mode and now you can install appropriate driver for Windows XP. Check your display card CD for Windows XP drivers. You can also download Windows XP display card driver at the following URL: http://download.nvidia.com/Windows/ 66.93/66.93_win2kxp_english.exe (17.3MB size).
