Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Data encryption
The opera browser displays a dialog box stating that the data I am sending is not encrypted. What does this mean? What should I do to encrypt the data I am sending? Please explain. Paul Zubin Thomas Encryption is the process by which the data to be sent is encoded or restructured so that it cannot be read by any others, only by the computer or person it is intended for. Encryption is used on Web pages where you enter confidential information, such as credit card transactions, scrutiny passwords, sensitive information, and the like. However pages like search engines, news update sites, do not require encryption as they do not have any confidential information. So whenever you submit such pages, you will get a general message informing you that this data is not encrypted. The encryption facility is provided by the Webmaster who designed the Web page. We do not have to do anything to encrypt the page. We only need to ensure that our browser is updated to the latest which will automatically have the highest level of security and encryption available. However, if you don't want to see such messages, you can turn them off by doing this: open opera, go to File {gt} Preferences {gt} Security and uncheck the box `Show dialog box before submitting a form insecurely.'
