Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Downloading mail
How can I download already-read mail in my Yahoo account? My Outlook Express account now downloads only new messages, not the old ones. Please tell me how this can be done. Viet Anh Using YPOPs, you can download already-read mails of Yahoo account into Outlook. YPOPs provides this option `Download all e-mails'. To select this, please follow these steps. Open your YPOPs application that sits on your system tray. Now right-click the YPOPs icon, and click configure, then double-click Email Preferences, and click Receiving Email. On the right pane, under the Download Email Category, click the option `Download all emails' and click OK. To save settings, just close and open the YPOPs application. Now connect to the Internet and open Outlook which will download all e-mails (including already-read mails) of Yahoo mail account. Once you have downloaded all the mails, you will have to change your setting back to `download only unread emails' option on YPOPs, otherwise your old, read, mails will also get downloaded every time. Configuring YPOP with proxy server Please tell me how to configure YPOPs with proxy server. Anand Sharma If you access the Internet through a proxy server, you may need to set the proxy's settings. Double-click the YPOPs icon on system tray and double-click Advanced Preferences of YahooPOPs, select proxies. In the right pane, select the option `Connect to the Internet via an HTTP proxy server' and type the details of http and https host address and port etc. If your proxy server requires proxy authentication, then you can enter your username and password by enabling proxy authentication. YPOP supports proxy server with Basic Authentication only. Other Advanced Authentication methods such as Digest Authentication, NTLM and Kerberos 5 authentication support are not provided. So please ask your proxy server administrator what kind of authentication method is being used on the proxy server. For more information, please refer to our tip-off article at http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/ ew/2004/12/20/stories/2004122000160400.htm and on YPOPs at this URL: http://yahoopops.sourceforge.net and Click the link `Configuring Mail Clients' and select the respective e-mail clients.
Disabling recent folder I am using MS Office 2000. Every time I access an Office document, a shortcut or reference of the same is created in the folder c:\windows\application data\Microsoft\office\recent. How do I disable this? Anand Kakani Disabling office recent folder is not a straightforward procedure. To work around this, just write a simple dos batch file to delete office recent folder shortcut files. For Windows 98 operating system, the Microsoft office recent folder is located on c:\windows\application data\Microsoft\office\recent. (It assumes that the operating system has been installed on the C drive). For Windows 2000/XP operating systems, the recent folder exists on C:\Documents and Settings\user{gt}\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Recent folder. Replace user{gt} with the name of the current profile in use. Now open notepad and type the following two lines and save it as filename with .bat extension.(e-g recent.bat). del /q "c:\windows\application data\Microsoft\office\recent\*.lnk" del /q "c:\windows\application data\Microsoft\office\recent\*.url" Just double-click the batch file that will delete all the recent shortcuts. If you like to automatically perform this action on every system boot, you may type the above two lines on your autoexec.bat file of windows 98, or copy this bat file on your system startup folder. Also, please make sure these options are enabled on your Windows 98 before starting the process mentioned above, double-click My Computer and click view menu - Folder Options - View tab. Select "Show all files" radio button and deselect "Hide file extensions for known file types". Solutions by M. Sampath
