Removing malware

My Ad-aware SE has found a malware VX2 (ntxe.exe is the file extension name) in the system. Though it quarantines and removes it, the malware appears again and Ad-aware is not able to remove it. My Ad-aware and Spybot-Search & Destroy programs are up-to-date.

I have two programmes — Home Search Assistant and Search Extender — installed in my system, without my knowledge. I tried to remove them through Add/Remove, but was unable to do so. These programs don't have `uninstall' options too.

My `home page' setting gets changed every time I try to open it. I was using Google as my home page, which has now changed to "about blank" automatically.

How do I remove programs that don't have the `uninstall' option, and also the VX2 malware?

C.K. Rajan

Please run Ad-aware SE in safe mode, as some programs might be in use and Ad-aware might not be able to remove them permanently. Only basic drivers and programs needed for Windows will be started in safe mode only, start-up and other third party software do not get started in this mode, this makes it easy for Ad-aware to find and remove unwanted entries and programs. To start the system in safe mode, please press the F8 key when the system is switched on and starts to boot. Once in safe mode, start and run Ad-aware SE and select the full scan option.
