Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Configuring Outlook Express
Please tell me how I configure Outlook Express with company ID and how to configure it through the mdeamon server (how to assign POPUP and SMTP). Supratim Paul Before we go about configuring, let us take a look at some mailing protocols, which are the basics underlining any mailing system. SMTP or Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, is used to send mails and POP or Post Office Protocol is used to receive mails from a mail server. Irrespective of any mail server and mail client, these are the two protocols mainly used to send and receive mails from a mail client. Now let us look at configuring a mail client to send and receive mail. Every mail client will have a configuration dialog where it will ask for the SMTP and POP server name or IP. You will need to enter the IP address or domain name of the mail server you have access to. For example, if you have an account in VSNL, then you will need to know the name of the VSNL server that is running the SMTP and the POP service for you. It will usually be something like smtp.vsnl.co.in and pop.vsnl.co.in or you can even enter the IP address as given to you by the service provider. It will be something like 203.200.235.230. All these details will be given to you when you buy an account with any service provider. All you have to do is enter these details in the appropriate place in the mail client and the client will send and download mail for you from the server. Here is an example of configuring Outlook Express Mail client. While configuring a mail account for the first time with Outlook Express, please do the following: When you start configuring Outlook Express for Mdaemon server (or for any mail server which supports POP and SMTP), just type the account name you want and in the next screen enter the e-mail address. After this, it will prompt you for the incoming and outgoing server addresses. Here give the IP address or the name of the mail server, in your case the IP of the Mdaemon mail server. If both the pop and smtp service are running on the same server, give the same IP addresses for both SMTP and POP. Otherwise specify the respective IPs or the respective service (POP and SMTP). When you click next it will prompt you to enter the profile name and password. Here, give the mail address of the account without the domain name. For example, if your email ID is john@email.com, just give `John' as the account name and the respective password. Click finish and close the wizard to check your mails.
