Letters `Balanced view'
Sir, I would like to express my appreciation for the article on the Technopark by Vipin V. Nair in eWorld dated August 1, 2005. I have maintained a keen interest in the happenings at Technopark and the major expansion drive of recent months has made me a very happy man. In fact, in my spare time I have been working with an NGO called the Thiruvananthapuram Development Front, which aims at promoting development activities in Trivandrum of which the expansion of Technopark is a major thrust area. We have been working with the authorities at Technopark on a gamut of initiatives such as business development, development of an IT corridor and the improvement of lifestyle facilities in the city. In this context, I would like to applaud your unbiased view of the IT sector in Kerala and Technopark's past, present and future contribution to it. The clear bias shown by the present Government of Kerala to the development of IT/ITES at Kochi to the detriment of Technopark has been dismaying and in some cases, alarming. For example, the Kerala Government seems intent on giving more publicity to a 3.25 lakh sqft Infopark than the 15 lakh sqft Technopark, going against the simplest of economic logic. The Government, for example, had argued that it was difficult to attract IT companies on its own. Technopark's recent expansion, as you have highlighted, is a firm contradiction of that argument. Hope you cover Technopark in more detail in the coming days. Ajay Prasad
