Bringing up `Task Manager'

My computer has the following configuration: Pentium IV, 1.5 Ghz, 224 MB RAM, 40 GB HDD, and Windows XP Service Pack 2.

I use IE 6 SP2 for browsing, using a 56 kbps dial-up connection. The problem is that when I press Ctrl+Alt+Del, the Task Manager does not show up.

I have even tried to access it through the Windows and Windows\system32 folders, but to no avail.

A few months ago I had encountered the same problem, but when I upgraded my operating system to SP2, the problem ceased to exist. However, now it has shown up again.

I use updated anti-virus and anti-spyware tools. Please suggest a solution.

Please try the following steps, one after the other, till the problem is solved.

First download and run the TaskMgrEnable.reg registry file from the following location:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/taskmgrenable.reg, save it to your local disk and double-click the file. This will "Enable" the task manager by changing the appropriate registry value in the registry. Restart the system and see if this solves the problem.

If, however, the problem persists, please download and run the following registry file: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/TaskManager_Reset.reg This will reset the Task Manager-related registry values.
